Tax Inspectors Without Borders
The Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) is a joint initiative of the OECD (the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) and the UNDP (the United Nations Development Program) that supports countries for developing capabilities in tax audits, strengthening of their cooperation in tax matters and contributing to the domestic resources of developing countries by sending tax experts to assistance-requesting tax administrations.
The Revenue Department's Announcement
On 19 June 2020, the Revenue Department announced:
The Revenue Department in Thailand is enhancing its tax investigations with the assistance of Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) by asking experts to pass on their knowledge and share their experiences with the Revenue Department's tax audit officers with the aim of closing loopholes in cross-border taxation matters.
Many countries are facing the problem of inability to collect tax from businesses and people because there are now too many not locally-registered. Countries are looking at ways to solve this problem and the Thailand Revenue Department has signed up to participate in the Tax Inspectors Without Borders program for TIWB providing the Thailand Revenue Department - assistance, knowledge, technique, efficiency and coordination with other countries - sending experts to Thailand to share experiences and provide advice to the Thailand Revenue Department's tax audit officers.
The Revenue Department's participation in the TIWB will expand the capabilities and capacities of the Department's tax audit officers, for fairness in tax between domestic and foreign businesses and people in Thailand.
